MISSION
The Dallas Area Council of the blind strives to better the lives of blind and visually impaired people in the Dallas metropolitan area through advocacy, education, cooperation and friendship. In pursuit of this mission, we:
- Provide a platform for the views of the blind and visually impaired of our community
- Seek to increase social, cultural, and economic opportunities.
- Cooperate with existing educational and rehabilitation agencies to improve the level of services provided.
- Encourage blind and visually impaired people to develop their ability and potential and assume their responsible place in the community, with an emphasis on those for whom the condition is a new reality.
- Provide for the exchange of information, ideas, methods and resources relevant to the needs of the visually impaired.
HISTORY
DACB was organized in 1990 under the American Council of the Blind of Texas (ACBT) an affiliate of the national organization. DACB advocates for the interests of blind and visually impaired Texans in the Dallas area.
MEMBERSHIP
Though the majority of our members are blind or visually impaired membership is open to sighted persons who share in ACB’s mission and goals. Annual dues are $10. You can fill out an application online from our membership page. All members receive THE BRAILLE FORUM; a national publication of ACB news and activities available in various accessible formats, and THE TEXAS STAR, a publication of statewide news and activities.
MEETINGS
Monthly meetings are usually held on the 3rd Saturday at Envision Dallas, 4306 Capital Ave.from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
