Need a new phone or tablet? The Specialized Telecommunications Assistant Program (STAP) may be able to help. STAP is a resource of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) / Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (ODHHS).  STAP provides financial assistance for purchasing specialized assistive communications equipment for individuals whose disability interferes with their ability to access their telephone network.

Qualifying for this program is not based on income or insurance; however, applicants must be at least five years old.  They only need to have ONE of the following disabilities: 1) Hearing loss, 2) Vision loss, 3) Upper Mobility loss or 4) Speech Impairment.  If they qualify, they can obtain a FREE smartphone, Samsung tablet or Apple iPad.

Applicants must provide medical documentation supporting their disability and proof of residency, such as ID, voters registration, or utility bill.  If they can have this documentation at the meeting, it will expedite the process.   Elma Torrez, program vender, will be our June speaker.
